yuengling

I was just thinking about my last blog. Yuengling is the oldest brewery in the U.S. and I aint never heard of it until just recently, not that I think I've heard of everything but still.....

I think the problem is the name, like I said before, I aint going in no bar and ordering a Ying-ling. Think about it a little bit, Adolphus Busch didn't name his beer "Adolphusweiser", he went with "Budweiser". It's easy and feels right to say "Gimme a Bud". I think they call it marketing and I got a few ideas for the Yuengling Beer Company.

They need a catchy name, I aint even sure how to say Yuengling. I'd suggest "Hoeweiser". How does that sound? Walk up to the bar and say "Gimme a Hoe." Tell the waiter "I'll have a Hoe". If you wanted a light beer, you could order a "Skinny Hoe", a draft (no can/bottle) could be a "Naked Hoe". If you wanted lime with it, make it a "Mexican Hoe", instead of a "tall boy" (16 oz. can), you could have a "Big Hoe", guess that would make a "pony" a "Midget Hoe". Seasonal beers are popular now, Decembers could be the "Hoe-Hoe-Hoe". A non-alcoholic version would be a "Faux Hoe". Can you imagine the superbowl halftime commercials?

I could go up to the bar and say "Gimme a Hoe, and make sure it's got good head."

redneck beer review #4

I guess you're wondering what kind of beer it is? I'm kicked back on the beach drinking it, does it really matter what kind it is? Only thing that matters is "Is this the last one?", other than that, who gives a rat's ass.

What I liked about it: Did I mention that I was sitting on the beach?

What I didn't like about it: The only bathroom is about a mile down the beach. I don't want to walk that far. Could just wade out about waist deep and take a whizz, not gonna happen anytime soon. While the temperature on the beach was around 80, the water temp was 1 degree above freezing. You stick one toe in the water and piss yourself right there.

Redneck Rank: Way up there; location, location, location. It was all location, great spot, no pot.

Research reveals link between beer and bone health

Research reveals link between beer and bone health

A new study suggests that beer is a significant source of dietary silicon, a key ingredient for increasing bone mineral density. Researchers from the Department of Food Science & Technology at the University of California, Davis studied commercial beer production to determine the relationship between beer production methods and the resulting silicon content, concluding that beer is a rich source of dietary silicon. Details of this study are available in the February issue of the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Society of Chemical Industry.

"The factors in brewing that influence silicon levels in beer have not been extensively studied" said Charles Bamforth, lead author of the study. "We have examined a wide range of beer styles for their silicon content and have also studied the impact of raw materials and the brewing process on the quantities of silicon that enter wort and beer."

Silicon is present in beer in the soluble form of orthosilicic acid (OSA), which yields 50% bioavailability, making beer a major contributor to silicon intake in the Western diet. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), dietary silicon (Si), as soluble OSA, may be important for the growth and development of bone and connective tissue, and beer appears to be a major contributor to Si intake. Based on these findings, some studies suggest moderate beer consumption may help fight osteoporosis, a disease of the skeletal system characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue.

The researchers examined a variety of raw material samples and found little change in the silicon content of barley during the malting process. The majority of the silicon in barley is in the husk, which is not affected greatly during malting. The malts with the higher silicon contents are pale colored which have less heat stress during the malting process. The darker products, such as the chocolate, roasted barley and black malt, all have substantial roasting and much lower silicon contents than the other malts for reasons that are not yet known. The hop samples analyzed showed surprisingly high levels of silicon with as much as four times more silicon than is found in malt. However, hops are invariably used in a much smaller quantity than is grain. Highly hopped beers, however, would be expected to contain higher silicon levels.

No silicon was picked up from silica hydrogel used to stabilize beer, even after a period of 24 hours and neither is there pick up from diatomaceous earth filter aid.

The study also tested 100 commercial beers for silicon content and categorized the data according to beer style and source. The average silicon content of the beers sampled was 6.4 to 56.5 mg/L.

"Beers containing high levels of malted barley and hops are richest in silicon," concludes Dr. Bamforth. "Wheat contains less silicon than barley because it is the husk of the barley that is rich in this element. While most of the silicon remains in the husk during brewing, significant quantities of silicon nonetheless are extracted into wort and much of this survives into beer."

32 oz. Bud Light Draft
There's one place that I know of where you can get this beer, D'Casa Mexican Resturant in Tupelo, MS. The food is good, free chips and salsa and Monday night is "2 for 1" margarita night. This beer is not for sipping, at 32 oz, you got to drink it. That's right, 32 ounces, one quarter of a gallon. There are 2.7 regular beers in each one of these, keep that in mind if you're driving. It runs $3.75, I call that a bargin for a beer in a resturant. You can have a Corona or a Dos XX if ya want, I'll take a Bud Light, no lime please.....

What I like about it:
1. It's ice cold in an ice cold glass. Seriously this glass is super cold.
2. It's Bud Light, less filling, taste great and all that crap.
3. Did I mention that it's 32 oz?
4. Comes with chips and salsa. To hell with a lime in my beer, give me chips and salsa on the side.

What I don't like:
It's Monday night, 1/2 price margarita night. I gotta drive so one is my limit.

REDNECK RANK:
An ice cold six pack after cutting the grass in July.

Bud Light Lime
I've always wondered why some one would put a line in their beer. Well, I'm still wondering. This crap is nasty. I've had a Corona or two before, they're alright. Never did add a lime to it, at least with the Corona you have the option on the lime, with Bud Light Lime, you can't take it out.

This beer actually tastes like it's got something green in it. Fruit and beer just don't go together. Nearest thing I can come up with is if you squeezed a big old lemon in your chocolate milk. YUCK! If you like lime in your beer, more power to ya, it'll leave more of the good beer for me. When I did some looking to figure out why lime was added to beer in the first place, this is what I came up with: Some people state that a wedge of lime was put on bottled beer to disinfect the rim or to keep flies from landing on it. Makes me want to add a little lime.

What I liked about it:
1. I didn't buy it, I bummed it off somebody else.
2. It was cold.

What I didn't like:
Taste like dammit. Let's leave the limes for Margaritas!

Redneck Rank: Last beer in the cooler.

redneck beer review #1

I was just thinking that I should do something to make my blog better. After a little looking on the internet, I realized that beer blogs/beer reviews were very popular. That got me to thinking, hell, I drink beer, why can't I do a review? What better beer to start with then my favorite, Busch Light, so here we go.....

Let's start with what I like about it:

1. cheap (less than 15 bucks/30pack), you can forgive a lot with cheap.
2. comes in a 30 pack (what's better than a case, a case and a 6 pack.
3. comes in a easy open can, no bottle/can opener needed.
4. if you drink cheap beer, most folks won't bum off you.
5. recycle cans, takes a lot of them to amount to much but I don't see that as a problem.
6. tastes great, if you don't agree, that's why there's 4,651 different kinds of beer.
7. light beer/less calories, my wife says I don't like any thing "light", i beg to differ.
8. I've seen the brewery, it's cool and they give free samples.
9. American made (but now owned by Inbev, long as they don't mess up a good thing).
10. don't need glass/cup, no mess, this beer is meant to be drunk straight outta the can.

I can't think of but one thing I dislike about it, that "c" in Busch goes against my rules of spelling.

Redneck Rank: 6 pack of tall-boys, ice cold.
